Proud to be a contributing educator in the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium.
Since 2015, I have been a contributing educator involved in the California Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). The SBAC is a national consortium of 28 states collaborating to develop a student assessment system aligned to a common core of academic content standards. Of those, California is one of 21 governing states that allow decision-making participation. The remaining seven are advisory states. https://youtu.be/SIg0YZL8-LI
( The SBAC focuses on assessing students annually in grades three through eight in English language arts and mathematics and once in grades 10 through 12 under current federal requirements.)
Over the years, the Smarter Balanced consortium has developed Formative Assessments with the latest iteration called Tools for Teachers. The Tools for Teachers site is the formative assessment component of the Smarter Balanced assessment system. The Formative Assessment Process is a deliberate process used by teachers and students during instruction that provides actionable feedback that is used to adjust ongoing teaching and learning strategies to improve students’ attainment of curricular learning targets/goals.

Tools for Teachers is an easy-to-use website featuring lessons, activities, and more that incorporate the formative assessment process and accessibility strategies. This website supports teachers daily during their instruction to help educators reflect on their students’ knowledge and take action on the next steps to meet learning goals.
